Why Can't I Be Free? Lyrics: Why? / I don't know, what it is to be free / And I cry, when you say / That you can't free me (please free me) / I just can't go on / Why can't I be free? / Why?

Apr 27,  · Many consider Twelve Dreams of Dr. Sardonicus, released in , to be Spirit’s finest hour, though I still find their initial self titled album to be their crowning maurasecudebi.menvandlconnantydeconseedeslisurdsouth.coheless, Spirit, a nearly mythical band, arrived at the apex of experimental classic rock, lacing their music with jazz, rock, folk, and bathing all of that in the waters of psychedelia/5(K).

The Twelve Dreams of Dr. Sardonicus is so perfect one can't help wondering if, a la Led Zep, these guys made a pact with the Devil. Just kidding, all you Zep fans. The pact that was made was with David Briggs (Neil Young's producer back in the day), who simply frames the songs in the best possible light, and what beautiful light it is/5(13).

Album Rating: Twelve Dreams of Dr. Sardonicus has always seemed a strange outlier to me, it's both somewhat ahead of its time and has no comparison. It sounds fresh enough that it could have been a band today writing a definitive 's album after years of practice. I can't praise this album enough.

Jul 08,  · Still obsessed with research, I was stunned to learn that Twelve Dreams of Dr. Sardonicus was Spirit’s lowest charting album, failing to earn gold record status until several years after its release. My conclusion is that Americans had their heads firmly up their asses in , given the fact that Iron Butterfly and Three Dog Night both made.
