Jan 22,  · Researchers recommend that adults obtain between 7 to 9 hours of sleep, or an average of 8 hours, for optimal health. Uncommonly, adults may fall into two categories: short sleepers and long sleepers. A short sleeper can be alright with getting less than the average recommended hours of sleep (less than seven hours).

We need at least 7 to 8 hours of sleep every night because this length of time allows us to experience 4 to 5 full sleep cycles. One sleep cycle lasts about 90 to minutes and during it, we experience non-rapid movement sleep (NREM) and rapid eye movement sleep (REM). Both NREM and REM sleep are needed for proper physical and mental health.

Sleep cycles and the best time to sleep: In general, a sleep cycle is a minute period of sleep. During the sleep cycle, we move through five levels of sleep and four levels of non-rapid eye movement sleep and one level of rapid eye movement sleep. We move from light sleep of being slightly awake at level 1 to a deep and sound sleep in level 4.

As we age, the number of hours of sleep needed daily decreases. For example, newborns need hours/day, while adults aged 65 and over need hours/day. What time should I go to bed if I wake up at 6? If you wake up at 6 am, to get hours of sleep .

Animals who live in the jungle, the forest, the sea―all whisper to their babies a soft refrain: It's time to sleep, my love. As comforting as a soft blanket and warm as a goodnight hug, Eric Metaxas's lullaby is lovingly brought to life by bestselling artist Nancy Tillman (On the Night You Were Born), whose illustrations celebrate the wonders of the natural world, and the bonds of family/5(K).
