Low Budget Orchestra’s “The Second Best” is a fun album of good quality keyboard sounds, distorted rhythm guitar lines that sound like they were written by Joe Satriani, expert shred guitar passages, and several interesting lead guitar lines.

This is the second CD by Finnish multi-instrumentalist Mikko Muranen. Actually, he does everything. Plays all the instruments, mixes the music, and does the artwork as well. The CD features 8 tracks in about 40 minutes in a nice digipack format. The music is all instrumental guitar oriented progressive rock.

Low Budget Orchestra: The Second Best With an artist name like Low Budget Orchestra and an album title of The Second Best you'd be forgiven for approaching this CD with some hesitation. Let me put your mind at rest: there's really no need to be scared, it's much better than the names might suggest.

Befitting its name, this indeed sounds like a Low Budget Orchestra as it consists of one person, who is a multi-instrumentalist who's album The Second Best is his second release under this moniker. The low budget is probably the reason why there are electronic drums used.

My favorite part of this album is the last 2 pieces: "Revised Music for Guitar and Low Budget Orchestra and RDNZL" In my opinion, this is fantastic music making with a very solid band that sounds jazzy, very complex and always interesting and uplifting. The bass playing by Tom fowler on "revised music" and James Youman on RDNZ is quite impressive/5(58).
